How To Create A Personal Vision Statement

Nearly fifty years ago, Rosa Parks made a simple, yet courageous choice that ignited a revolution. On December 1, 1955, she was riding on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama when a white man demanded that she give up her seat.  She declined, even though the law required her to do so.  

With this small act of boldness, a testimony demonstration of personal courage, Rosa Parks gave a voice to a new story that started the civil rights movement, a voice that demanded justice and equality for all.

What gave Rosa Parks the inspiration to do what she did?  Basically, Rosa Parks had a vision. She had a dream for a better way of life for herself and her peers.  She saw herself as the architect, keeper, and instigator of that vision.  She knew that her idea was achievable as long as she took action everyday to bring herself closer to the vision as reality.

Many years ago, at a celebration in her honor, Rosa Parks said, “Without vision, people will perish, and without courage and inspiration, dreams will die!”  Rosa declined to let her dream die.
